Homelessness

Today my friend and I had an interview at a place called the Drop in Centre. This is a service for those who are homeless, or have been evicted. Arriving at the centre was a little scary as homeless people can be unpredictable. In fact, about half an hour before we arrived, a resident had punched someone within the centre and the police were called to sort it out. Regardless however, we approached the building and went straight to the front desk to ask for a man called Chris Clarke.

He showed us around the centre talking us through the activities and services they provide. It was interesting to find out that the Drop in Centre provides opportunities for homeless people to earn some money, which I personally thought was a great idea! It was a pleasure to meet Mr. Clarke as his drive and motivation to help people in these situations was inspiring. He has been working in this area for about 30 years and finds it extremely rewarding to help people gather confidence in order to face the world after years of abuse, mental illness and other factors. We will be writing a feature article on the effects mental illness has on homelessness. Stay tuned! :)

Here is a picture driving to the centre today.
